Drugs

The current federal attitude about drugs is not based on dealing with the reality and social problems caused by drug use. The "War on Drugs" is a campaign aimed at controlling the population by incarcerating large numbers of citizens. Others live under the continuous threat of arrest, and any police state knows the power that fear gives. Others are deluded into believing that the government is "tough on crime", and is somehow making them safer. But arresting members of society who are not harming others takes time and attention away from violent crimes and corporate crime.

I want to move the country away from an arrest-and-lock-away approach to drugs. Such a change is a huge step; it can not be done all at once, and one solution does not fit everything.
