I believe we can give gay rights, while preserving the “sanctity of marriage” by changing the legal language to use “domestic partnership" instead of marriage. “Marriage” should be a religious term, defined by churches, synagoges and other religious institutions.

1. Remove “Marriage” from Federal Rules
   Remove “marriage” from Federal dept rules & replace it with “Domestic Partnership”.
   

2. Remove Marriage from the Laws

Pass legislation in the U.S. Congress Congresses changing “marriage” to “domestic partnership".


3. Create Federal Domestic Partnerships
   only for residents of state which don't allow gay domestic partnerships.
   

4. Make the IRS use “Domestic Partnerships”
   

5. Encourage States to switch

to “Domestic Partnerships” and to apply them to same-sex couples.
